A two-day warrant round-up looking for people in Lubbock County suspected of being in arrears on child support payments collected 21 people.
The people are believed to owe as much as $400,000 in child support One man, David Martinez, 34, was subdued with a stun gun about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evening after an officer reported that Martinez turned to engage her while he fled, said Lubbock sheriff's Capt. Tony Menchaca. The other 20 warrant arrests were made without incident.
He said all 21 individuals were charged with failure to pay child support and will be arraigned Friday morning.
"The raids are designed to get people to come in and take care of their business," he said describing how other people failing to pay their child support might take their obligation more seriously after hearing about the arrests.
Officers attempted to serve 35 warrants but were only able to arrest 21 of the individuals. Menchaca said officers will continue efforts to arrest the remaining 14 people.
He said the sheriff's office conducts the raids periodically in conjunction with the Texas Attorney General's office.
The roundup ended Thursday night.
